Creating a Sacred Space

This morning I woke up early. In the darkness, I lay there with words (and a blue butterfly) dancing around in my head; today’s the day I start! I’m not going to lie, the butterflies are rumbling as I start to type these words on a white screen, reminding me very much of my humanity. Dreaming up ideas is the easy part, taking the first steps of action is what’s terrifying. Deep breathe.

Yes& is a dream awakened in my heart by the Father. An attempt to bring unity, identity, love, authenticity, validation, and freedom amongst women in this pin it-post it-like it-tag it-tweet it-snap-it world. If I’m honest, I don’t feel very qualified. But I recently heard Bill Johnson say, “Sometimes doing the thing you feel disqualified for actually qualifies you.”

If I build anything in this life, it’s going to be built on truth, vulnerability, and love - those are the non-negotiables. Yes& is about using the power of our testimony (Story) and the blood of the Lamb (Grace) to release healing, hope, unity, peace, love, and freedom. Story + Grace = Hope! This is how we overcome the chasms of division, the infatuation of deception, the bitterness of judgment, the chains of bondage, and the painful wounds of heartbreak.

It’s not about “but”, it’s about “and!”

But is a thief, it steals the power of our story, our pasts, our wounds, and our scars. But entices us into hiding, and clothes us in shame. It tells us we have to cover up, be quiet, and figure it out ourselves. But builds walls of false protection – perfection, judgment, bitterness, cynicism, and isolation. But is a bullying liar whose master is fear.

And, on the other hand, validates where we’ve been, it honors the story and makes room for the new, the more on the other side. And is hopeful, it believes the best is yet to come. And is surefooted, knowing the paradoxical strength and beauty that comes from a season of brokenness. And is attractive because it’s vulnerable, authentic, and humble. And practices gratitude and learns the dance of joy. And declares there’s a Superior Reality where the greatest of these is love.

We don’t pretend, perfect, strive, push down, bury our heads, or hide.

Yes, we all have been hurt, wounded by people we trusted, & even there, His hand is with us, promising to make beauty from the ashes.

Yes, we all have agreed with the lies about who we are and what we’re capable of, & yet the story doesn’t end there, we get to shatter those freaking lies with a sledge hammer and rebuild our identities on Truth.

Yes, we all been enslaved to fear at some point, & thank God we have been given a spirit of power, love, and sound mind that trumps all fear in the ass.

Here’s to the Yes ________________________, & ________________________ . I can’t wait to see what this sacred space becomes.

Morgan is a storyteller at heart. After running an NGO in Uganda for 7 years, she and her husband, Dave, currently record a weekly podcast called Chasing Unicorns, produce and host The FIND series, run the CB Ideas design agency, and mange Yes& Collective. Morgan also co-authored the newly released children’s book, The Girl Chronicles: A Story of Good. She’s a mom to two middle schoolers, Asher & Jadyn, and so when she’s not driving them around, she fills herself up with yoga, reading, air-popped popcorn, and all things coconut flavored.
